Folklore Festival in Marrakech

The city of Marrakech will host the 50th edition of the National Festival of Folklore under the theme “Wealth and Diversity in the National Cultural Heritage”.

The Ministry of Culture and Communication is organizing this great cultural event under the patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. It will be attended by more than 600 artists representing about 40 bands from different regions of Morocco. Also other folklore bands from China and Ukraine, Senegal and Algeria are invited with a view of expanding its influence internationally.

The festival activities will take different archaeological locations like the Badii Palace which will welcome the main performances of the festival with its magnificent paintings. Also places like Jemaa el Fna Square, Al Harthy Square, Royal Theater and Sidi Youssef Ben Ali Park will be busy rocking.

The program includes a variety of folklore shows and an international seminar on “Moroccan-African Gestures, Texts and Music: The influences And Relations” attended by academic scholars and experts.

Mohammed Al-Kenedri, President of the Great Atlas NGO, said during a press conference while highlighting the program that this cultural and artistic exhibition aims to enhance the Moroccan cultural heritage, its diversity and national unity, it is expected to also promote tourism in Marrakech and its region. It will enhance the city’s appeal as a tourist destination and capital of arts and cultures.

He states that the program will provide a wide-range of cultural events for the Red City (Marrakech) audience, interested Moroccans and foreign visitors.

He also mentioned that the National Festival of folklore Arts is getting its way back to where it belongs after years of absence, and that the association would work together with the Ministry of Culture and Communication to ensure its continuity.

The Ministry of Culture and Communication’s representative Mr. Ezzeddine Kara guaranteed the continuation and development of the festival. The festival is seen as a mirror of cultural diversity in Morocco and combines all the ethnical characteristics of Morocco. The ministry is sponsoring the event with Millions of Dirhams, and planning to classify it as a national heritage.
