The First Edition of the Oued Eddahab Festival

A number of Moroccan singers such as Dounia Batma, Hamid El Kasri, Ahmed chawki, Cheb Younes, Farid Ghannam, Kader, Tiw Tiw, Nouaman Belaiachi, popular singers Statiya and Tachinouit, in addition to Garmi Mint Abba, Aminatou bent Nefrou and abti ment anekdi, will take part in the first edition of the Oued Eddahab festival, which will be organized by the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region, from 23 to 25 August, as part of the celebration of culture and youth.

According to a statement received by our website, this festival aims “to create an artistic, cultural and youth event, unique in its kind at the regional level and likely to highlight the Moroccan and African intangible heritage in general, and relating to the desert in particular, while making it an annual event during which the population of Dakhla and Oued Eddahab will have to discover art, culture, heritage and performing sports”.

During this festival, concerts will be organized on the Hassan II and Nahda stages throughout three days, with the participation of Moroccan and African stars and artists, in addition to daily shows that will be given by folk groups from different regions of Morocco, such as Gnaoua, Ba Hssine from Zagora or Ahidous from Kelaat Megouna.

The festival will also feature a dance competition entitled “Talents from Africa”, a competition that will bring together several artists and groups from different African countries, such as Senegal, Mali, Guinea, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire and Morocco, to present shows that highlight their countries’ rich heritage.

The festival public will also have the opportunity to visit a museum that offers an exhibition of photos of HM King Mohammed VI glorifies him, as well as a series of photos and portraits that retrace the main stages of modern Morocco under the reign of its last three kings.

The inhabitants of Dakhla and its regions will also be present with camel races, in homage to this authentic cultural heritage of the desert. These races will be organised on Friday 23 August, in Dakhla in front of Boutala, on a 13 km long course.

The festival will end with a five-minute fireworks display, which will be launched from the Dakhla naval base on Sunday evening, August 25.
