The 18th edition of the Marrakech International Film Festival pays tribute to Australian cinema, one of the oldest in the world, having produced the first feature film in history as well as a multiple of fascinating films such as Dead calm, Muriel, Ballroom Dancing and Animal Kingdom, as well as several box-office successes such as Mad Max and Crocodile Dandy. Australian cinema has also produced many international stars, including star Nicole Kidman.
The festival, which will run from 29 November to 7 December, will host a large delegation of Australian actors and directors who will travel to Marrakech for this exceptional tribute, which comes after a long list of countries that the festival has received as guests of honour. These are Morocco, Spain, Italy, Egypt, Great Britain, South Korea, France, Mexico, India, Scandinavia, Japan, Canada and Russia.
And on the occasion of the 18th edition of the festival, Moroccan cinema will be honored through the “panorama of Moroccan cinema” section, where several films will be presented, such as Adam by Mariam Touzani, a film that has already been presented at the Cannes Festival. Another Moroccan film, which remains to be determined, will be presented in the section “Cinema of the audio description” for the visually impaired, as well as a Moroccan film that will be invited to participate in the official competition of the festival.
After a period of absence, the Marrakech International Film Festival came back last year with a new organization and world-class guests such as American giant Robert de Niro.
