Barid Al-Maghrib Reopens its Museum and Offers the Public a Trip to the Heart of the Post Office’s History

The Barid Al-Maghrib group introduced its museum after redevelopment at an official ceremony on Thursday November 21, 2019. The institution thus invites the public to discover the history of the post office in Morocco through a unique journey through time.

This introduction takes place on the eve of the commemoration of the 127th anniversary of the Moroccan postal administration, celebrated on November 22 each year. The Group marks this reopening with a philatelic exhibition dedicated to the 20th anniversary of King Mohammed VI’s reign. As part of this exhibition, Barid Al-Maghrib presents an important collection of postage stamps issued since 1999 on the main subjects and fields that have marked the contemporary Morocco.

Barid Al-Maghrib is also launching, on this occasion, a special issue of an innovative block featuring the visuals of the first six Moroccan stamps, issued in 1912.

Located in the center of the imperial city of Rabat, the Barid Al-Maghrib Museum traces the history of the post office, whose first services were created in 1892, under the reign of Sultan Moulay Hassan Premier. It is supported by a building classified as a historical heritage site, and offers an audiovisual and digital presentation.

This museum, a living memory of the post office, houses several exhibition spaces over an area of more than 700m², including the post office in the era of the protectorate, the post office after independence and today’s post office. Stamp collectors and art lovers will be able to discover more than 600 philatelic products and objects related to the history of the Post.

Designed to be not only a landmark of the city of Rabat, but also a place of learning and knowledge, the Barid Al-Maghrib Museum has provided a space dedicated to children in order to develop their knowledge and stimulate their creativity.

The Museum offers free access to all the public wishing to discover its exhibition spaces.

The Barid Al-Maghrib Museum opens its doors from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am to 6pm, From November 22 to December 31, 2019.
