The Welsh National Opera Orchestra Delights the Audience

On Wednesday evening, the Welsh National Opera (WNO) gratified the delighted audience with a performance at the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco in their first performance in the country.

“A Journey to Vienna” transported audiences from Paris to Vienna with a program of orchestral works, opera and operetta featuring the radiant Mary Elizabeth Williams.

Conducted by the first violin David Adams, the WNO orchestra delighted music lovers with the songs “Offenbach”, “Dvorak”, “Fauré”, “Brahms”, songs based on Greek myth, Czech melodies and Hungarian dances. Starting with the Music Halls on the Left Bank, David Adams took the audience to the glittering ballrooms of 19th century Vienna with the famous waltzes, polkas and songs.

The singer Mary Elizabeth Williams, who became the audience’s favorite at the Welsh National Opera, was greeted with thunderous applause before giving a magnificent performance of her many WNO productions, such as Tosca De Puccini and Verdi’s La forza del destino.

Speaking on this occasion, the perpetual secretary of the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco Abdeljalil Lahjomri stressed that among the noblest functions of art is the expression that allows the human being to overcome his materialistic tendencies, adding that music plays an important role in education on the values of beauty and tolerance. It is in this context that the show of the WNO, which came for the first time to Morocco and Africa, reflects the place that the Academy gives to the fine arts, which have become essential in the era of turbulence and the crash that invade the hearing of man, he said.

For his part, the concert director Aidan Lang expressed his joy at being present in Morocco, saying that it is a moment to forge a friendship between the two countries, through the transfer of the passions and emotions of the musicians. The Welsh National Opera’s programming is structured around thematic seasons that bring together different works under the same theme. Through these thematic seasons, the Welsh National Opera hopes to introduce a new generation of audiences to this wonderful art form of opera.

The objective of the WNO is to bring the power, drama and raw emotion of opera to as wide an audience as possible through performances that are marked by an uncompromising search for artistic quality.
