A Book in Honour of Fatema Mernissi

The collective work “Fatema Mernissi, the scientist and the commitment” is published in homage to an exceptional woman.

Presented as a preview at the third edition of the Salon du livre d’Oujda, Lettres du Maghreb last October, this book brings together the testimonies, looks and words of recognition that some Arab and French-speaking intellectuals expressed about Fatema Mernissi. In this book, Driss El Yazami, the president of the Council of the Moroccan Community Abroad (CCME), wrote: “This is Fatema Mernissi: an intractable feminist activist against social inequity and exclusion. She is a scientist of international stature and an artist who has been able to reactivate figures from our ancestral imagination to found a society reconciled with its past, open to the present and focused on the need to build a future of modernity, justice and equity in which women and the feminine constitute active forces capable of nurturing projects for development and progress. Her passing is a loss for all of us that resonates very painfully at a time when we sorely need such person, courageous and enlightened thinker. But the mind never dies, especially when it is like hers, full of nobility and the will to do the best. That is why our gratitude to her is intended, above all, to be faithful to her memory and a willingness to perpetuate her thought and her work”.
