Morocco: The First National E-Racing Competition Is Launched

Vivo Energy Maroc, the company in charge of the distribution and marketing of Shell-branded fuels and lubricants in Morocco and Butagaz-branded liquefied petroleum gas, is launching the “Shell V-Power Virtual Cup”, the first national E-racing competition. This unique operation takes place in 8 cities from December 26, 2019 to March 31, 2020.

Regional ranking tables are established to select the drivers with the best times. The 96 best times will meet in Casablanca next April to compete in the final. The winner of the competition will win a trip to experience a Formula 1 World Championship Grand Prix in 2020.

During their visit to a Shell service station, every motorist can take part in the competition by taking a seat in an F1 simulator. He or she also benefits from an immersion in the heart of the car’s engine. An opportunity to discover the performance of a drop of Shell V-POWER in the vehicle thanks to a virtual reality helmet.

The competition takes place in about fifty service stations, spread over the cities of Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier, Tetouan, Meknes, Fez, Marrakech and Agadir.

Digital is a central lever of this operation. Drivers have access to an online ranking updated in real time at www.virtualcup.ma: each lap is counted instantaneously and in a completely transparent way, to make way for E-sport and E-fair-play.

“Vivo Energy Maroc is always at the forefront of innovation and technology, and the world of E-sport is moving in the same direction. For the first time in Morocco, a large network of service stations is joining this world of online gaming to offer its customers a moment of sharing. We are also encouraging our fans on social networks to come to our stations to participate. It’s a unique experience to discover the world of motor racing through a fully digitized device” said Mehdi Abaghad, Network Director of Vivo Energy Morocco.

“The “Shell V-Power Virtual Cup” is part of a series of innovations, in line with our fuel quality strategy; the most recent being the introduction of Shell’s revolutionary new range of fuels last April. On this occasion, Shell V-Power Lead Free was introduced for the first time in Morocco, the only fuel co-developed and recommended by Ferrari. All the fuels were equipped with Dynaflex technology, designed to improve the performance and efficiency of diesel and petrol engines,” added Salwa Benslimane, Network Marketing Director at Vivo Energy Morocco.

The customer experience and its improvement, supported by the contribution of technology and digital, is at the heart of Vivo Energy Maroc’s differentiation strategy. Shell service stations are designed as one-stop shops to provide everything motorists need on the move. With the “Shell V-Power Virtual Cup”, the stations also provide fun and awareness-raising experiences to complete the customer journey. An opportunity to provide an enjoyable experience for consumers, including those who have never played an E-sport competition before.
