Harit: “I Want to Leave the Club with a Positive Image”

In an interview with the German giant Bild, Amine Harit (Schalke 04) looks back on the events that have marked his life over the last few months and talks about his future.

After a fatal accident in 2018 (he ran over a pedestrian in Marrakech) and then gradually losing his place in the team, Amine Harit found himself on Schalke 04’s starting list, but he stuck with it: “There was no good alternative, so I decided to stay. It was the right decision. If I had to leave the team one day, I would want to do so with a positive image. I want everyone to say: Amine Harit was a great player for Schalke.”

He also talked about his extension until 2024 and the reasons why: “First of all, I love Schalke! I play for a very big club in Germany and I feel very supported again. Secondly, my family feels completely at home in Gelsenkirchen. Thirdly, I want to achieve a lot with the team, and I want to give them something back for their trust and thank them for their efforts.

With six goals and four assists in 17 appearances this season in the Budesliga, Harit is back to his best. “Many people didn’t believe I could reach my current level and come back so quickly,” he said.

The Moroccan also points out that David Wagner, his current coach, has a lot to do with him: “He’s not a coach who limits me. He demands a lot – for example in defensive work, but he supports me and gives me a lot of freedom on the pitch.”

Having become the father of a little girl in May 2019, the 22-year-old has a new motivation: “I want to be a good role model for her. I thank God that my life has taken this new direction.”
