Surfing: Taghazout Bay, a New Stage in the World Surf League

The first edition of the Pro Taghazout Bay starts soon at the Pointe des Ancres, one of the jewels of the Moroccan south coast. This stage of the 2020 Qualifying Series of the World Surf League will take place from January 25th to February 1st with a list of participants that promises a week of a very high level.

Supported by the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation, the Souss Massa Region, the Moroccan National Tourist Office, Africa gaz, Fairmont Residences Taghazout Bay, Maroc Telecom, Aïn Atlas, Sol House, Surfrider Fondation Maroc and Surf Report Maroc, the event promises to be a must-attend event in the qualification process for surfers aiming for the Championship Tour next season.

Ranked QS5,000, the second most important category of the Qualifying Series in 2020, the Pro Taghazout Bay is one of the most eagerly awaited competitions on the calendar, alongside the Pipeline in Hawaii, Hainan Island in China, and Fernando De Noronha in Brazil.

Attracting some of the best surfers on the planet, the Pro Taghazout Bay will see the participation of Kanoa Igarashi (JPN), Frederico Morais (PRT) and big wave surfing star Kai Lenny (HAW). On the Moroccan side, all eyes will be on the performances of Ramzi Boukhiam. Considered the best professional surfer in Morocco, Boukhiam has an impressive track record: a place as Junior World Vice Champion 2013 and recent victories in the Qualifying Series in Zarautz, Anglet and Lacanau.

The ambassador of Moroccan surfing, qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, will be accompanied by Redouane Regragui, Aboubakar Bouaouda, Selyann Zouhir and Neil Aboufiras, as well as Othmane Choufani and Abdel El Harim, among others.

“We thank the corporate citizens and institutions that are involved in this process of developing the discipline, including the ONMT, the Souss Massa Region and Taghazout Bay,” said Mohammed Kadmiri, President of the Royal Moroccan Surfing Federation. “Surfing is a major pole of attraction for the region, cultural and tourist management is therefore essential for the development of surfing here. »

“The Taghazout Station Development and Promotion Company has put sustainable development at the heart of its strategy,” said a representative of Taghazout Bay. “It is a new generation resort based on sports and leisure with a golf academy, tennis and football fields, and of course surfing. This event is therefore very important for Taghazout Bay which is one of the main sponsors of the competition. »

The Pro Taghazout Bay will take place from January 25th to February 1st at Pointe des Ancres. For all the results, photos, videos and press releases, log on to www.worldsurfleague.com.
