The king Mohammed VI launched, on Friday January 17, the creation of a City of Arts and Culture. He also inaugurated an integrated complex of crafts.
Mobilizing investments of about 350 million DH, the project of city of arts and culture will be carried out on a plot of 3.6 ha and should allow the city to have a large training and rehearsal space for music and theater groups, in line with the international reputation and stature of Mogador.
The future City of Arts and Culture will include a large theater with a capacity of 1,000 seats, a music conservatory, a book house, a museum of traditional arts and another of tea, an esplanade (outdoor stage) with a capacity of up to 30,000 people and an underground car park.
This project will be carried out within 48 months, within the framework of a partnership between the Ministry of the Interior (130 MDH), the Ministry of the Economy (50 MDH), the Ministry of Agriculture (land base), the Ministry of National Planning (50 MDH), the Ministry of Culture (60 MDH) and the Regional Council of Marrakech-Safi (60 MDH).
On this occasion, the King presided over the signing ceremony of the financing agreement relating to this project. It was signed by Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of the Interior, Mohamed Benchaaboun, Minister of Economy, Aziz Akhannouch, Minister of Agriculture, Nouzha Bouchareb, Minister of National Land Management and El Hassan Abyaba, Minister of Culture, Government Spokesman.
It was also signed by Karim Kassi Lahlou, wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, governor of the Marrakech prefecture, Ahmed Akhchichine, President of the Regional Council of Marrakech-Safi, and Adil El Malki, governor of the province of Essaouira.
Subsequently, the Sovereign inaugurated the integrated complex of crafts Essaouira, with a total cost of 18.5 MDH. This complex will provide young people in the region with a professional qualification adapted to the socioeconomic reality of the handicraft sector, mainly through apprenticeship training, as well as integration into the job market.
This handicraft complex will also contribute to the preservation of certain endangered trades, the promotion of local handicraft products and the enhancement of the gender approach since 50% of the beneficiaries are women.
Erected on a plot of land of 2,355 m2, the new complex also aims to organize and support artisans in the province to enable them to improve and diversify their incomes and enhance the value of their products.
The integrated complex of the craft Essaouira contains, for this purpose, a center for professional qualification in traditional arts including professional workshops, three training rooms, a computer room, 20 workshops and 7 exhibition spaces (wood thuja, jewelry “deg souiri”, raffia, weaving, leather goods, musical instruments, local products).
Resulting from a partnership between the INDH, the Ministry of Tourism, the Regional Council of Marrakech-Safi and the Provincial Council of Essaouira, this project also includes a multipurpose room, the headquarters of the Provincial Directorate of Handicrafts and that of the Chamber of Handicrafts, an office of the association of beneficiaries and other administrative and technical dependencies.
