One Anaconda Gives Birth to 26 Babies

An anaconda, belonging to the species of the largest snakes in the world, gave birth to 26 babies during the night of Tuesday to Wednesday at the Crocoparc of Agadir. A statement from the park’s administration said that the animal keepers had expected this, but that it was difficult to predict the exact date of birth, saying that the babies were “in good health”. “They measure an average of 80 centimeters and weigh 260 grams,” says the same source, while noting that visitors to the park will be able to see them in the nursery, where a space has been set aside for their well-being.

Noting that the anaconda is ovoviviparous or viviparous according to the scientists, the release explains that the young are born after a gestation period of about 7 months and that they are independent at birth. Like their parents, they will grow throughout their lives to become breeders when they reach 3 meters in length.

The green anaconda (Eunectes Murinus) is considered the largest snake in the world. It can exceed 6 meters in length and weigh more than 150 kilos. Native to South America, it lives close to water where it is very comfortable. It remains discreet thanks to its green color with black spots. It hunts on the look-out, waiting for a prey to pass by. With a single stroke, it surrounds it, wraps itself around it to suffocate it, then swallows it.

Digestion will often take place on the shore in the sun, for several days, sometimes weeks depending on the size of the prey, explains the same source, before concluding that Crocoparc will present to its visitors 10 anacondas and 10 reticulated pythons as well, the two largest species of snakes living on the planet today.
