The FIFA President Is in Morocco

The FIFA President Gianni Infantino stressed on Saturday in Salé the need to increase the volume of investment in African football in order to promote it and raise it to the level of the world’s best.

The promotion of African football requires the development of the infrastructure, the establishment of good governance, the upgrading of refereeing and the reform of competitions, Mr. Infantino said in a statement to the press at the end of the closing session of the study day on the development of competitions and football infrastructure in Africa held at the Mohammed VI Football Complex in Salé.

The FIFA President reviewed a number of proposals made during the study day, including the organization of the African Cup of Nations (CAN) every four years, the creation of leagues for the under-18 and under-19s and the establishment of a professional super league that will feature the 20 best clubs on the continent.

According to Infantino, the CAF Africa Cup of Nations should be played once every four years to make it commercially viable and attractive on a global scale, especially as the competition currently generates 20 times less revenue than the Euro.

Mr. Infantino also announced FIFA’s intention to invest one billion dollars so that every country, from the 54 members of the African Football Confederation, can build a world-class stadium.

The President of FIFA did not miss the opportunity to praise the new Mohammed VI Football Complex, which ranks among the world’s top centers and should be a source of pride not only for Morocco but for Africa and the world.

This sporting event brought together the most outstanding players in the field of football, FIFA and CAF experts, African football legends, security and media officials, as well as notable experts in the fields of strategy and finance, who presented the best options for raising funds to build, develop and secure football infrastructure.
