Rabat Designated as African Capital of Culture

The city of Rabat has been declared African capital of culture for the period 2020-2021, the organizing committee announced on Saturday.

The decision of the Committee of African Capitals of Culture was taken following its meeting, held in early February at the headquarters of UCLG (United Cities and Local Governments) Africa in Rabat, to examine the conditions for organizing the celebration of African Capitals in Morocco after the withdrawal of the City of Marrakech.

The committee discussed the advantages of Rabat’s candidacy and the conditions that this city must meet in order to be a mirror of African culture for the period 2020-2021, the committee said in a statement.

A team has been set up to work on the general programming of the various events and activities planned.
