UNAF: Morocco Wins 2020 Women’s Tournament Trophy

The national women’s football team proved its strength and clinched the title of the North African Football Union tournament on Saturday in Tunisia, thanks to its three wins over Tunisia, Tanzania and Mauritania. Already assured of the title before Saturday’s match, the Lionesses still confirmed their superiority over Algeria by winning the match 2-0.

Morocco’s women’s football team won the North African Football Union (UNAF) tournament on Saturday before playing their final match, which counts as Matchday 5. A match that the Lionesses still dominated, against Algerian women overwhelmed by the events (2-0). With nine points from their first three games, the Moroccans have thus won their fourth successive match against Algeria (2-0), Saturday afternoon at the Kram stadium in Tunisia, on the last day of the competition.

After a first half where the Lionesses dominated without scoring, Ghizlane Chabak finally opened the score 5 minutes into the second half (50th), while Ibtissam Jraïdi secured the result in the 86th minute. Lindsey Kelly Ann’s players finished the competition with a clean sheet (4 victories), while Tunisia and Tanzania were set to compete for the second and third places in the final standings on Sunday afternoon. In total, the Moroccans scored 11 goals in four matches, conceding just two (against Tanzania). The Moroccans spent the concentration period at the Mohammed VI Football Center in Maâmora (9-12 February), before heading to Tunisia to play in the UNAF tournament.
