Royal Gendarmerie: The Female Gender Makes its Way in the Field

The first class of female officers is preparing to join the Royal Gendarmerie. This is the very first class of female officer trainees at the Royal Military Academy of Meknes.

The first class of women officers will join the troops of the Royal Gendarmerie, the Arabic-language daily Al Ahdath Al Maghribia tells us in its edition of Monday, March 9. During the last seven months, these women officers of the regiment have undergone academic training and have been confronted with real-life situations in the field to strengthen their psychological leadership skills. The course also aims to improve their physical condition and strengthen their resilience in crisis situations.

At the end of the training, the services of the “soft forces” will be deployed in the field and will cover the various fields of activity of the Royal Gendarmerie, the Casablanca media emphasizes.

From now on, in the first year, gender equality will prevail in the training of apprentice officers. All officers follow the same academic and military training.

For the current year, the Royal Military Academy of Meknes is training officers who will join the ranks of the Royal Armed Forces, the Royal Gendarmerie and the Auxiliary Forces at the end of their training.

Training at the academy lasts 4 years. It enables the graduates, who have the rank of second lieutenant, to obtain a university and military diploma.

With the opening up of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces, women’s participation in the army is no longer limited to simple executive functions, particularly in the health services or the social sector. Under-represented in key positions, women will now be able to challenge the traditional codes of hierarchy.

There is no longer any question of falling into the old stereotypes of a male-dominated army. The latter is gradually giving way to a modern army that is increasingly giving more and more room to the women.
