Will the Mohammed VI Arab Clubs’ Cup, which was interrupted by the spread of the Coronavirus, come to an end this season? According to a UAFA official, the answer lies with the Moroccan authorities.
Will the Mohammed VI Cup of Champion Clubs go all the way this season? Nothing is less certain when we know that the Coronavirus pandemic is only just beginning in the region concerned by the Arab Cup: North Africa and the Middle East.
Faced with this involuntary paralysis, an official of the Arab Football Union (UAFA) said that the decision to continue the competition rested with the Moroccan authorities, reports the Al Akhbar newspaper on the weekend of 21 and 22 March.
The UAFA official told the Egyptian newspaper Al Watan that the fate of the competition is in the hands of the Moroccan authorities. He added that the clubs still in the competition were in three countries particularly affected by the virus, namely Morocco, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. These clubs are Raja Casablanca, Al-Ismaily, Ittihad Jeddah and Chabab of Saudi Arabia.
The same official justifies his statement by the fact that the semi-final return match between Raja and Al-Ismaily is to be played at the Mohammed V Complex as well as the final which will also take place on the pitch of the Moulay Abdellah sports complex in Rabat. The final has not yet been officially postponed and is scheduled to take place in the second week of June.
