Fez: Disobedience and Violation of the State of Health Emergency, Five Individuals Are Arrested

Members of the prefectural service of the judicial police of Fez proceeded, early Monday, on the basis of precise information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), to the arrest of five individuals suspected of violating the state of health emergency declared to fight against the spread of Coronavirus.

In a statement, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said that the suspects, aged between 26 and 49, were arrested following intense searches and investigations carried out after the events of last Saturday.

Several charges have been brought against them. Instigation to gather on the public roads in the old Medina and the Ain Kadous and Bensouda neighborhoods in Fez, disobedience and refusal to comply with preventive measures taken under the state of health emergency, in conditions that could affect the safety and security of citizens.

The operation to identify suspects in the databases of wanted persons revealed that one of them had been convicted under the Anti-Terrorism Act and that another had a criminal record for crimes of violence and harm to persons and property, according to the same source.

The five suspects have been taken into custody for the initial investigation conducted under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to clarify the details of the case, according to the DGSN.

Noting that research and investigations are continuing to arrest anyone involved in these acts, which affect the health security of all citizens.
