The UAE Gives the Green Light for the “Long-Distance Marriage”

The Federal Government of the United Arab Emirates has given the green light for long-distance marriage, with the aim of avoiding gatherings that would encourage the spread of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19).

This new service is available through the electronic portal of the Ministry of Justice, the official news agency WAM reported on Sunday.

According to the same source, the religious official in charge of concluding the marriage can preside over the ceremony online, ensuring the identity of the bride and groom and witnesses.

If the marriage contract is then validated, virtually, by the specialized court, the bride and groom will receive a confirmation SMS, the news agency added.

To combat the disease, the UAE has taken strict self-isolation measures. The pandemic has already taken the lives of 20 people out of the 3,700 or so cases recorded in the country.
