Abdelmajid Dolmy: The Legend of Moroccan Football

Abdelmajid Dolmy’s name will always be associated with the Raja Casablanca , a team in which he started playing when he was barely 16 years old. This was shortly after national team star Pitchou discovered his talents during an amateur match at the Hermitage stadium in Casablanca.

Dolmy has won numerous victories with Raja, as well as with the national team for which he played his first games in 1975 against the Libyan national team in the qualifying rounds for the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. This is what made him a true legend of Moroccan football and an irreplaceable player.

He was born on August 20, 1953 in the poor district. Abdelmajid Dolmy remained loyal to his team, the Raja of Casablanca, which he was passionate about. Accordingly, he turned down many important offers from prestigious European clubs such as Bayern Munich and Inter Milan. Even when he played for the “Olympic” in a money-making deal at the time, Raja fans continued to watch the games of their favorite player in his new team, even when it coincided with a match against their own team. But when the fans heard about the agreement to transfer the “professor” (as he was known) to Wydad, their arch-enemy, they vigorously protested against the club’s management, who quickly cancelled the deal, fearing the wrath of Raja’s fans.

Abdelmajid Dolmy was a midfielder. Despite his small physical appearance, he possessed the highest level of technical ability, as well as a surprising ability to manage and direct the game. He was also known for his ability to retrieve the ball and dribble more than one player at a time. For this reason, his fans nicknamed him the “Maestro” who, despite all the fame he had achieved, remained so modest and shy that he did not do any interviews throughout his career. He merely recorded his biography in a book written by his friend, the journalist Karim Idbihi. This book is the only document that bears witness to the history and legend of Dolmy. His death in 2017 left all of Raja fans in shock.
