Gradually, things are getting back to normal in Morocco and economic activity is showing signs of recovery. For example, the great deal between the Dislog group and Fater, the Italian leader in household cleaning products, is evidence of this, and which is expected to generate more than 110 jobs.
Work has resumed for a good number of companies and a variety of activities as well. Casablanca has once again become what it is: a city on the move. The deconfinement was therefore done gradually and is in place since Thursday to allow cafes, restaurants, hairdressers and tourist operators to restart their businesses.
Even though the health situation is reassuring, according to the Minister of Health, it will be necessary to continue to be very cautious, through the prevention of gatherings and the respect of social distancing.
The latest figures show that the number of infections in the Kingdom since the first case was reported on 2 March this year stands at 11,877 and the number of people fully recovered at 8,723, representing a recovery rate of 73.4%. The number of deaths amounts to 220. The new cases are distributed among the regions of Casablanca-Settat, with 75 new cases (25 in Sidi Barnoussi, 30 in El Jadida, 16 in Casa and 4 in Berrchid), Marrakech-Safi (22 cases in Marrakech), Tangiers-Tetouan-Al Hoceima (52): 10 in Tangier, 34 in Fahs Anjra and 8 in Tetouan), Fez-Meknes (23 in Fez), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (5: 3 in Kénitra, 2 in Sidi Kacem), Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra (62: 61 in Laayoune and 1 in Tarfaya), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (2 in Fkih Bensaleh), Guelmim-Oued Noun (1 in Sidi Ifni) and Dkhala-Oued Eddahab (2).
Progress has also been made in the repatriation of Moroccans stranded abroad. Returns are increasing. Royal Air Maroc has also obtained the green light to restart some internal flights. The cities of Marrakech and Tangier, which are still classified in zone 2, will have to wait a little longer before seeing their airports reopen to travelers. However, achieving this deconfinement by relaunching the entire ecosystem promises to be very difficult in view of the damage caused by the Covid-19 crisis, which is enormous. While some businesses will manage to get out of it, others may not survive!
The government will have to support all these people by showing them the way, by facilitating the procedures and by lightening their obligations. All these things will make it possible for us to return, in part, to a normal life. After all, we will have to learn to live with this Coronavirus.
