No African Golden Ball for the Year 2020

The CAF Awards 2020 ceremony is cancelled. This was announced by the president of CAF, Ahmad Ahmad, during a press conference held on Tuesday 30 June by videoconference.

The CAF Awards 2020 ceremony, organised annually by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) will not take place in early 2021. The CAF Executive Committee has decided to cancel it because of the Covid-19 pandemic, said President Ahmad Ahmad at the end of his press conference held in videoconference on Tuesday.

The last CAF Awards ceremony was held in Egypt last January. And it was Liverpool’s Senegalese striker Sadio Mane who was awarded the African Golden Ball. Achraf Hakimi was named African Footballer of the Year 2019.

As a reminder, major decisions were taken on Tuesday by the governing body of African football: the postponement of the CAN from 2021 to 2022, the CHAN to be played in 2021 as well as the revised tournament format for inter-club competitions (Champions League and CAF Cup).
