The program contract for the revival of the tourist sector, which covers the period 2020-2022, aims at giving priority to the maintenance of employment and at easing the cash flow of companies, underlined the Minister of Tourism, Handicraft, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nadia Fettah Alaoui.
“The priority is to maintain employment and to relieve the financial pressure on companies. In order to achieve these two objectives, measures will be operational as from this week”, Mrs Fettah Alaoui said in an interview published on Wednesday in the columns of “l’Economiste”.
In this sense, she stated that a series of other measures will be rapidly declined and gradually adjusted according to the evolution of the situation. She also highlighted the specific management system put in place to deploy and execute the terms and provisions of this program contract.
Mrs Fettah Alaoui also recalled that the public authorities have agreed to set up an investment fund dedicated to the tourism sector, given the need for funds and the importance of strengthening the balance sheets of tourism enterprises.
It is a question in particular of protecting the most fragile stakeholders and supporting operators to strengthen their assets, rethink their business model and seize the opportunities for transformation that the sector will experience after this crisis, she explained.
As regards to the postponement of the increase in the guaranteed interprofessional minimum wage (SMIG) which is not mentioned in the said programme contract, despite the fact that the General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) has taken a position on the issue, the Minister indicated that the partners in the sector have reaffirmed their commitment to improve the living standards of workers and the social climate. At the same time, they have taken into account the imperatives and constraints imposed by this unprecedented crisis. Moreover, all stakeholders are aligned around the decisions resulting from the social dialogue process.
On the subject of the governance of the sector, Ms Fettah Alaoui pointed out that one of the major lessons learned from this crisis is the weight of the informal sector, which has exacerbated the fragility, vulnerability and precariousness of a large fringe of tourism operators and workers in the sector. Consequently, the governance and management of the sector must be reviewed and revisited in partnership with the operators and this has been one of the main priorities of the program contract.
