Rabbi Pinto Raises $15 Million for Moroccan Jews at Yom Kippur

The Moroccan Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, President of the Hebrew Court in Casablanca, was able to raise approximately $15 Million dollars. This amount was donated by Jews around the world during the celebration of Yom Kippur, also known as the Day of Atonement, last weekend. During this celebration, prayers were recited and God’s blessings were asked for through the Aliyah Torah ritual performed in the synagogues. Jews gave many charities on this day because it is a day when all prayers are accepted.

This amount, donated by the Jewish elite, the greatest personalities, billionaires and businessmen who love and respect Rabbi Pinto, will be reserved for his Yeshiva in Morocco, in order to carry out social projects beneficial to the Jewish community in Morocco. Part of this sum will also be reserved for poor and destitute Jews living in the Kingdom, in addition to a sum for the maintenance of synagogues throughout the coming year.

Yom Kippur is one of the most sacred celebrations of the Jewish religion. It is a holiday reserved exclusively for prayer, fasting and asking for forgiveness. Several activities and rituals are prohibited, such as lighting fires, driving a car, writing and washing. This day is also considered the last chance to change the destiny of a person and the world for the next year.

Jews in Morocco celebrated Yom Kippur under exceptional conditions this year because of the Coronavirus and in the midst of strict preventive measures. They were careful not to gather in large numbers in houses or synagogues for prayer, but thousands of them followed the lessons of Rabbi Pinto, the grandson of the famous Moroccan rabbi Haim Pinto who is buried in Essaouira. Rabbi Pinto prayed to God to remove the virus, to bless next year and to send the Messiah to save the Jews from their pain and mark the approach of the end of the world.

In return, Rabbi Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto’s followers around the world prayed to God to heal him and prolong his life. Amen ve amen.
