DGAPR: commissioning of two new prisons

Two new penitentiary establishments, namely the local prison of Larache 2 and the local prison of Oujda 2, were put into service on Thursday, announced the General Delegation for Penitentiary Administration and Reinsertion (DGAPR).

The local prison Larache 2 was officially opened and has begun to receive prisoners transferred from other prisons, the DGAPR said in a statement.

This prison, erected on an area of more than 47,000 square meters, has a capacity of 1,500 beds spread over seven wards, added the same source, noting that it includes an educational wing with six classrooms, five workshops for vocational training in trades adapted to the requirements of the job market, in addition to a room dedicated to family visits.

This prison was designed in compliance with international human rights standards, particularly with regard to the reception of different categories of prisoners with a view to their reintegration after their release, the statement said.

It also has an administrative housing of more than 10,000 square meters which includes 88 apartments dedicated to the administrative staff and officials of the establishment and their families, which guarantees the normal functioning of the various dependencies under it, added the same source.

In addition, the local prison of Oujda 2 began this Thursday to receive new inmates from neighboring prisons, said the DGAPR, noting that this new structure, covering an area of 4.5 hectares, has a capacity of 1,400 beds spread over 12 wards.

The local prison of Oujda 2 has a ward dedicated to women and women prisoners with children, as well as another dedicated to minors, in addition to a family visiting room, a multidisciplinary clinic and an educational wing with teaching and vocational training rooms.
