Sahara: Moroccan diplomacy continues to rally support

The number of countries opening consulates in the Moroccan Sahara continues to increase, the northern Macedonian news website MKD said.

The United Arab Emirates also opened on Wednesday a consulate general in Laayoune, writes the information site, adding that such decisions reinforce and strengthen the international recognition of the Moroccan Sahara.

The opening of this new consulate is of particular importance, as the United Arab Emirates is the first Arab and Gulf country to open a diplomatic representation in the southern provinces of the Kingdom, notes the information site.

The inauguration of the Emirati consulate brings their number to sixteen in total, the MKD site also notes.

The United Arab Emirates opened a Consulate General in Laayoune, the 9th diplomatic representation inaugurated in the capital of the Moroccan Sahara in less than a year.

The United Arab Emirates joins the fifteen African countries that have already opened diplomatic representations in the two major cities of the Moroccan Sahara: Laayoune and Dakhla.

The United Arab Emirates followed suit with the Union of the Comoros, Gabon, Central African Republic, Sao Tome and Principe, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Eswatini and Zambia.
