The Executive, through the voice of the Head of Government, has not ruled out the strong possibility of a new total confinement, given the increase in the number of confirmed cases of covid-19, on a daily basis, especially in the large conurbations.
Indeed, during his speech at the Hemicycle last Tuesday, Saâeddine El Othmani insisted on the fact that everyone is aware of the seriousness of the epidemiological situation in Morocco. Therefore, he warned, in the event that the situation is out of control, a new total containment would be envisaged, even if nobody wants this option.
On the other hand, Mostapha El Jaï believes that Morocco lacks the financial means to meet the needs that a total reconfinement would require. The economic expert certainly stressed that public health is more important than any other consideration. But, he added, “if the first containment did not succeed in reducing the number of proven cases of coronavirus, while noting the laxity of citizens regarding preventive and health measures, then serious consideration should be given to whether another containment should be used”.
As proof, El Jaï referred to the latest report of the High Commissioner for Planning (HCP) which warns of the loss of 6,000 jobs in the last quarter of 2020. A figure that the economic expert describes as “very worrying”!
Moreover, the total confinement experienced in Morocco has already had serious repercussions on the tourist sector. And Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport and Social Economy had announced, last Monday under the Hemicycle, that the tourist sector has experienced a decline of 63% since the beginning of the pandemic to the present day.
On the other hand, the new coronavirus crisis has also had a negative impact on the health, both physical and mental, of Moroccans. Since then, many citizens have been suffering from insomnia, depression and depression.
