U.S. Advisor Jared Kushner in Morocco

A visit by Jared Kushner, the advisor and son-in-law of U.S. President Donald Trump and his son-in-law, is scheduled to Morocco next week to discuss the steps of standardization between the Kingdom and the Jewish State after announcing the cooperation between them, according to several international media.

Before arriving in Morocco, Kushner will visit Israel first next Monday, and then travel from Tel Aviv directly to Rabat on the first commercial flight between the two cities. He will be accompanied by a delegation of high-level U.S. and Israeli officials.

Kushner, whose origins are Jewish, has already visited Morocco in May 2019 to promote the Agreement of the Century, which aims to establish peace between Palestinians and Israelis. HM King Mohammed VI welcomed him to his Palace and organized a Ramadan Ftour in his honor.

The normalization between Morocco and Israel came as a surprise to many observers. Particularly because it was announced a few days after President Trump stepped down as President of the United States following his defeat in the presidential elections.

In exchange for its relations with Israel, Morocco obtained the American recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. It also obtained an American promise of large investments in the southern provinces, in addition to the inauguration of a U.S. consulate in the city of Dakhla, marking a hard blow to the “polisario” and Algeria which supports it.

Many institutes, official bodies and citizens have welcomed the normalization, and saw the opportunity for economic growth in the near future. Meanwhile, left-wing and political Islamic groups, which are no longer relevant given the changes and developments in the world, have opposed this step, considering it a betrayal of the Palestinian cause.
