An Agreement to Develop the Social Economy Sector

A cooperation agreement was signed, on Monday, between the Ministry of Tourism, Handicraft, Air Transport and Social Economy and the delegated ministry in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad and the Office for the Development of Cooperation. It is part of the implementation of Article 16 of the Constitution, in accordance with the high attention that HM King Mohammed VI pays to Moroccans Residing Abroad (MRE). The aim is to improve the efficiency of the support programs and to reinforce the services addressed to them.

This agreement aims to establish the foundations of the partnership between the two ministries. This will be achieved through the implementation of a program of cooperation and coordination on issues related to the development of the social economy sector in Morocco, accompanying the development of cooperatives and encouraging investment by MREs in this promising sector. It is an opportunity for them to put their expertise and know-how at the service of cooperatives active in all branches of human activity and to contribute to their accompaniment through various available means, in order to guarantee their continuity and development. In this regard, an action plan 2021-2030 will be developed to support 80% of cooperatives in the handicrafts and tourism.

In addition, this agreement is an opportunity to encourage MREs to invest and contribute to the development of territorial areas. This will be through the creation of or involvement in existing cooperatives and benefiting from all the services provided to facilitate their involvement in this framework.

To this end, information on cooperatives, according to their field of activity, will be exchanged at the level of the Kingdom’s regions, in order to support them during and after the creation period. This will be done within the framework of capacity building and support programs using specialized Moroccan skills residing abroad.

The signing ceremony of this convention was presided over by Nadia Fettah, Minister of Tourism, Handicraft, Air Transport and Social Economy, Nezha El Ouafi, Minister Delegate to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, in charge of Moroccans Residing Abroad, as well as Youssef Hosni, Director of the Office for the Development of Cooperation.
