The First Secretary of the Congress of Honduras Welcomes the Efforts of Rabbi Pinto to Strengthen Cooperation between his Country and Morocco

Tomás Zambrano, First Secretary of the Congress of the Republic of Honduras, praised the considerable and important efforts made by the Moroccan Rabbi and President of the Rabbinical Court in Morocco, Yoshiyahu Yosef Pinto, and his actions with Jewish communities to strengthen cooperation between Morocco and Honduras.

The well-known Honduran lawyer and politician, deputy of the department of Valle in Honduras, asked the government of his country to support the autonomy plan proposed by Morocco. He considered it the only solution that would put an end to the Sahara conflict and described it as a “promising, serious and credible solution” that will allow everyone to flourish in the framework of the development dynamics of the region, at all levels.

Zambrano had previously sent a letter to Nasser Bourita, the Moroccan Minister of Foreign Affairs, renewing his support for the autonomy initiative presented by Morocco and its efforts to find a political, peaceful and definitive solution to this conflict. This is within the framework of the Kingdom’s sovereignty and in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations, and in which he stressed that Honduras no longer recognizes the “Polisario” since 2014.

On the other hand, the Honduras-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group had previously praised the success of Moroccan diplomacy in defending the territorial integrity of the Kingdom in the Americas. It also stressed that the recognition by the United States of the full sovereignty of Morocco over its Sahara was a “correct and appropriate decision”, and considered that “powers within the European Union should do the same”, according to an article published by MAP (Maghreb Arabe Presse)

In its statement, the Parliamentary Friendship Group affirmed its “full support” to Morocco in the defense of its territorial integrity, especially in Latin American countries, adding, in the same statement: “It is a concrete reality that Moroccan diplomacy is engaged in a more dynamic battle to defend the Sahara cause in Latin America, where the Moroccan position has received our attention and solidarity”. He considered that “Morocco is gaining points in Latin America in its battle to defend the Moroccan Sahara, and adheres to a realistic and firm position on this issue. The Honduras-Morocco Parliamentary Friendship Group also expressed its intention to work towards strengthening bilateral cooperation by inviting Moroccan MPs to visit Latin America and explore the promising prospects offered by the region.
