The former director of the newspaper Le Figaro and number 2 of the television channel TF1, Etienne Mougeotte, died on Thursday at the age of 81. A connoisseur of Morocco, he had interviewed King Hassan II.
The media man Etienne Mougeotte, who was the number two at the TF1 group for nearly 20 years, then notably at the head of the editorial staff of the daily Le Figaro from 2007 and 2012, died on Thursday at the age of 81, a relative told AFP.
Etienne Mougeotte “died this afternoon” in hospital following an illness, said Francis Morel, a close friend of the family and the former executive. The information was also released by Europe 1 and Le Figaro, the editorial offices he headed.
A key figure in the French media landscape, he has had a wide range of experiences in various editorial offices, including France Inter, Europe 1 and RTL.
Mougeotte was also known for his love of Morocco, a country he visited regularly. The journalist had interviewed King Hassan II several times, notably on the Europe 1 programme “Le club de la presse”. He was also one of the last media men to have met the late king. It was on 16 July 1999, just two weeks before the death of Hanna II.
