Casablanca-Settat sees its Covid counter soar

A total of 1,960 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) and 641 recoveries have been recorded in Morocco in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health and Social Protection said on Thursday.

In its daily bulletin on the epidemiological situation, the Ministry noted that the number of people who received the first dose of the vaccine reached 24,552,646, that of those who received two doses amounted to 22,924,662, while 2,932,157 people received three injections.

The new infection toll brings the total number of infections since the first case was reported in Morocco in March 2020 to 961,058, while the number of people who have recovered has risen to 939,533, representing a recovery rate of 97.8%.

The new cases were recorded in the regions of Casablanca-Settat (1.290), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (389), Marrakech-Safi (167), Souss-Massa (37), Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima (25), Fès-Meknès (22), Oriental (13), Béni Mellal-Khénifra (6), Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra (5), Guelmim-Oued Noun (3), Draâ-Tafilalet (2) and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab (1).

The total number of deaths rose to 14,844 (case-fatality 1.5%), with two new cases recorded in the regions of Marrakech-Safi and Fez-Meknes.

There were 6,681 active cases and 33 new severe or critical cases were recorded in 24 hours, for a total of 136, including 2 under intubation. The occupancy rate of the resuscitation beds is 2.6%.
