Morocco: Cigarette prices to be raised from 1 January

Bad news for smokers. The government’s planned increase in cigarette prices will take effect from Saturday 1 January 2022.

These increases concern cigarettes, rolling tobacco, “muassel” (molasses used in chichas), cigars sold individually and in boxes, and cigarillos.

According to a circular from the Administration of Customs and Indirect Taxes (ADII), the prices of manufactured tobacco will indeed change. The increase only concerns brands manufactured in Morocco, according to the table of new prices.

As for the main brands consumed by Moroccans, the price of classic Marquise, the most consumed manufactured tobacco product by Moroccans, has increased by one dirham and will now cost 24 dirhams.

The price of Winston Blue, Red and Classic and Marlboro has not changed, while the price of the famous local brand, Casa, has increased from 22 dirhams to 24 dirhams.
