CAN 2021: Halilhodzic’s men finalise details

With only a few hours to go before the start of the 33rd Africa Cup of Nations (9 January – 6 February) and just two days before their first match, the Atlas Lions have been fine-tuning the technical and tactical details in Yaounde, Cameroon.

During a training session on Saturday at the Ahmadou Ahidjo annex stadium, marked by the presence of almost all the group, the national coach, Vahid Halilhodzic, held a long speech to his players, followed by another one from the captain of the Nationals, Ghanem Saïss.

During this session, which was attended by the president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, the Sevillian, Youssef En-Nesyri, increasingly fit, carried out individual training sessions with a member of the technical staff, in order to prepare his return to his teammates. In the final stages of this edition of the CAN, Morocco will play in group C, alongside Ghana, Gabon and Comoros.

The Atlas Lions will start the tournament against the Black Stars on Monday 10 January.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has indicated that all 52 matches of this 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations will be covered by video-assisted refereeing (VAR), a first in the history of this competition.

The African body has also decided to increase the value of the prizes for this competition. The winner of the CAN will receive a cheque for 5 million dollars (an increase of 500,000 USD).

The competition will kick off on Sunday at 17:00 local time (16:00 GMT) at the Olembe Stadium in Yaounde. Cameroon, the host country, will play against Burkina Faso in the opening match.

The final will be held at the same venue on 6 February 2022.
