Soaring cases in Morocco: return of strict measures in mosques

The Ministry of Habous and Islamic Affairs has called on worshippers to respect the health protocol in mosques, following an increase in the number of cases of covid-19 contamination in Morocco.

In a document of which the Moroccan press has a copy, the ministry’s delegate in the province of Médiouna called on mosque officials to enforce physical distancing. The document also urges them to remind worshippers, before each prayer, to respect the sanitary protocol and barrier gestures.

The Ministry delegate also stressed the importance of wearing masks correctly, using personal prayer mats, and putting shoes in the bags provided.

Mosques will also open 15 minutes before the start of the prayer and 30 minutes before the start of the solemn Friday prayer. The reading of the ‘hizb’ is now exclusive to officials and mosques will close immediately afterwards.
