Murder of a French woman in Tiznit: the police open an investigation

The judicial police brigade of the provincial district of Tiznit opened, on Saturday, a judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent prosecutor’s office to arrest the suspect in a case of assault and battery with a knife, which led to the death of a foreign national.

Preliminary data from the investigation suggest that the suspect assaulted the victim and caused her death with a sharp object while she was at the municipal market of Tiznit, the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement, noting that investigations are underway to elucidate and determine the motives for this act.

The DGSN does not exclude the hypothesis of an assault for theft at this stage of the investigation, the statement said, noting that the research and investigations conducted by the judicial police on the ground, based on the viewing of surveillance cameras and descriptions of witnesses, have allowed the identification of the accused in possession of a weapon that would have been used to commit this crime.

The checking operations also allowed to identify the victim, who is a French national aged 79, living in a campsite near the city of Tiznit, the same source said, adding that her body was transferred to the hospital for autopsy.
