Moroccan athlete Hicham Laquahi won this Sunday, the 31st edition of the Marrakech International Marathon ahead of Kenyan and Ethiopian athletes.
The native of the city of Marrakech has broke the record of 2h06min32 of the marathon, held since 2013 by the Kenyan Stephen Tum, after completing the 42km marathon in 2h06min22s. The second place on the podium went to the Kenyan Jacob Kendagor (2h07min01s), the third place went to the Ethiopian Feleke Wondouser (2h07min20s).
In the men’s half marathon event, it was a Moroccan trio that finished first, with Mohamed Reda El Araby taking first place (1h01min17s), followed by Omar Ait Chitachen (1h01min44s) and Hamid El janati ( 1h01min50s).
The women’s marathon was won by the Ethiopian Negari Hawi Alemu who crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 2h27min39s, followed by the Moroccan Souad Kanbouchia ( 2h27min52s) and another Ethiopian, Bere Asyech Ayalew who took the third place of the podium (2h28min02s).
