Richard Attias: The King of Communication

The Franco-Moroccan businessman Richard Attias was born in Fez on 19 November 1959 into a Jewish family. His grandfather was the official dressmaker to HM King Mohammed V, while his father was one of the high-ranking civil servants of the State.

Richard Attias left Morocco for France at the age of 16 to pursue his studies. He obtained a master’s degree in mathematics and physics, before joining the National Institute of Applied Sciences in Toulouse and obtaining a degree in civil engineering.

He began his career in 1983 at IBM before turning to the field of communications and founding his company “Publicis”, then “Publicis Life” and finally “Richard Attias and Associates” which he founded in New York in 2008. It is a company that specializes in communication, influence and the organization of international seminars. This company is often involved in the organisation of world events such as the Davos Economic Forum, the GATT, the launch of the euro in 2000, or the UMP conference, during which Nicolas Sarkozy was elected the Secretary General at the head of the party on 28 November 2004.

Attias has achieved many successes thanks to his intelligence and charisma. Over the years, he has managed to build a solid network of international relations, including presidents, crowned heads, among other influential personalities. His power of persuasion is so strong that the French media have nicknamed him “the king of communication”. Numerous articles have been devoted to his activities. However, his name was mentioned in the “Panama Papers”, among those of businessmen accused of tax evasion. But he also became known for his relationship with Cecilia Sarkozy, the former French First Lady, whom he married in March 2008 after her divorce from French President Nicolas Sarkozy.
