Toni Kroos Speaks about Homosexuality in Football

Homosexuality remains a sensitive issue in the world of football and Toni Kroos (Real Madrid, Germany) explains why there are no coming-outs.

Homosexuality remains a taboo subject in the world of football. In an interview with GQ, Real Madrid’s German midfielder Toni Kroos said that he does not advise an active gay player to come out.

“On the pitch, certain words are used. In the stands too and someone could feel insulted and devalued, especially outside. That’s not acceptable,” said the Bayern Munich former player.

“I’m sure that if someone declared his or her homosexuality, there would be a lot of support,” he says. “But even today, unfortunately, there would not only be advantages in doing so”.
