Ministry of Health Reveals Decline in Coronavirus Reproduction Rate in Morocco

An official of the Ministry of Health said on Tuesday in Rabat that the reproductive index of Covid-19 has decreased during the past two weeks and reached 0.92 last Sunday.

The head of the division of communicable diseases in the Ministry of Health, Abdelkrim Meziane Belfkih, explained during the presentation of the monthly review of the epidemiological situation that the weekly epidemic curve for Covid-19 recorded a decrease until December 6.

This decrease was noticed especially in the region of Oriental (-25%), Draa-Tafilalet (-22%), Guelmim-Oued Noun (-21%), Casablanca-Settat (-14%), Rabat-Salé-Kénitra (-5%), Marrakech-Safi (-5%), Laayoun-Sakia Lhamra (-2%) and Fez-Meknes (-1%).

On the other hand, the manager states that the weekly curve increased in each of Béni Mellal-Khénifra (+17%) and Souss-Massa (+8%).

Regarding the curve of deaths, Mr. Belfkih added that it also decreased by 3.6% at the national level.

On the other hand, he indicated that Morocco has carried out 4 million laboratory tests to detect the virus with the PCR technique, ranking second at the level of the continent and 36 at the global level.

In addition, the official added that the number of positive cases in the world has increased to 67 million 493 miles and 598 until December 7, with a cumulative incidence rate of 886 for every 100,000 inhabitants.

He noted that the number of deaths is one million 543 miles and 629, with a case-fatality rate of 2.3%. He said that the number of people cured is 46 million 689 miles and 337, with a cure rate of 69.2%.

In the same context, the official stressed the importance of following preventive health measures to fight the virus, including wearing masks, physical distancing, hand disinfection and activation of the Wiqaytna application.
