Road infrastructures: Ifrane and Sefrou speed up the pace

The provinces of Sefrou and Ifrane are speeding up road infrastructure upgrading works to better prepare for the winter snowfalls. Within this framework, 215 MDH were granted for maintenance and upgrading operations for the safety services of National Road No. 13.

The local authorities in the provinces of Sefrou and Ifrane are speeding up road infrastructure upgrading works to better prepare for the winter season’s snowfalls. Currently, several maintenance operations and safety service upgrades are being carried out on the roads linking the two provinces to the cities of Fès and Meknès. The work mainly concerns National Road No. 13 (RN 13), which has benefited from an investment of around 215 MDH. At the same time, the Provincial Directorate of Equipment, Transport and Logistics of Ifrane is preparing to launch a project to triple the distance between Azrou and Habri (8 km) for an amount of 34 MDH. The RN 13 has been widened and reinforced on two sections. The first, with an investment of 25 MDH, links Azrou to El Hajeb over 8 km, while the second, which mobilised an amount of 67 MDH, is located between Timahdite and the province of Midelt, over a distance of 19 km. The works also concerned the widening and reinforcement of the Provincial Road 7.311 linking the RN 8 to Ain Leuh, over a distance of 10 km for an investment of 20 MDH and the reinforcement of the RP 7.215 linking the RN 13 to Ain Leuh, over a total distance of 38 km, mobilising an amount of 44 MDH. The works also continue between Habri and Timahdite, with the development of several sections over a distance of 22 km for an amount of 72 MDH. At the same time, the province of Ifrane underwent works to repair the damage caused by the floods at a cost of 11 million dirhams. Two operations have been completed and the third one is in the process of starting.

158 million MAD between 2017-2018
It should be remembered that during the 2017-2018 financial year, the province of Ifrane has mobilised a budget of around 158 million dirhams for the reinforcement of road infrastructures. According to data from Ifrane’s Provincial Department of Equipment, Transport and Logistics, these projects mainly involve the construction of engineering structures, the consolidation of certain roads and the maintenance of runways. The investment projects concern, among others, the construction of the Timahdite bridge over Oued Guigou, with a budget envelope of 12 MDH, the consolidation of National Road No. 13 linking Timahdite to the locality of Ait Oufella at an estimated cost of 71 MDH, the reinforcement of Road No. 8 linking El Hajeb and Azrou (8 MDH), the extension of Provincial Road No. 7.217, located between Azrou and Ain Leuh (58 MDH), in addition to road n° 5.016 between the commune of Dayt Aoua and the Hachlaf lake (9 MDH). In addition, the Provincial Directorate of Equipment, Transport and Logistics of Ifrane has launched a vast programme of maintenance and widening of the province’s road network. This programme is particularly aimed at safeguarding the road heritage, improving traffic conditions and user safety on roads adapted to traffic. Work is in progress on some 65.7 km of roads with a total budget of MAD 80.4 million.
