A surprise decision! The French-Moroccan tennis player Elliot Benchetrit, who is 22 years old, announces the change of his sporting identity. He will represent Morocco instead of France during his next championships.

The player shared on his Instagram, Friday, a picture of him next to the Moroccan flag, writing: ” A great change in my tennis history will begin from January 1. It is going to be an honor to play for Morocco, my father’s country of birth! Representing this country in the Davis Cup and the Olympics will be just as much of an honor.”

He added “I remain French, but on a tennis court I will play under the colors of Morocco. I thank France for all its help and support throughout my career”.

Elliot said he is convinced of the necessity of this step, quoting Albert Einstein “Madness is to always do the same thing and expect a different result”.

He is 22nd in the ranking of French players and 223rd in the world ranking of tennis professionals.

Among the achievements of the player who was born in Nice is that he reached the second round of the Roland Garros Tournament in 2019.
