The Belgian citizen, assaulted last January by a mentally ill man in Agadir, is doing better.
According to a Moroccan press source, the victim, who was on vacation in Morocco when the attack occurred, left the Hassan II hospital on Friday, where she spent several days receiving the necessary treatment. She had been evacuated there in a critical condition after being assaulted on the public highway. The accused had also killed a French tourist in Tiznit.
As a reminder, the elements of the Prefecture of Security of Agadir had arrested last January, a 31 year old individual, with no criminal record, for his alleged involvement in the voluntary manslaughter and attempted voluntary manslaughter of two foreign nationals in Tiznit and Agadir.
The suspect was filmed by a surveillance camera of a business in the municipal market of Tiznit, fatally attacking a foreigner with a knife, before fleeing and being arrested in Agadir where he also tried to physically assault customers of a cafe at the coastal strip, including a Belgian national who was transported to hospital to receive the necessary treatment, said the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) in a statement.
The check-in procedures carried out on the databases of the National Security and medical records showed that the accused has already been admitted to the psychiatric department of Hassan I Hospital in Tiznit for a month, from September 25 to October 25, 2021, on requisition order issued by the local authority, the same source adds.
The accused was placed in custody for the purposes of the judicial investigation ordered by the competent prosecutor to clarify the circumstances and reasons for these criminal acts, concludes the statement
