Larache: Launch of the first Moroccan smart farm

The smart farm concept is coming to Morocco, in Larache. A solution to climate change and persistent drought. The event was officially launched recently at the Polydisciplinary Faculty of Larache.

This is the first Moroccan smart farm whose inauguration was highlighted by the presence of the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, Abdellatif Miraoui, the President of the University Abdelmalek Essaâdi, Bouchta El Moumni, and the Dean of the Polydisciplinary Faculty of Larache, Mohamed Larbi Kerkeb.

This smart farm is intended to promote sustainable agriculture through technology and artificial intelligence, explains a university source close, because adds the same source, agriculture today must indeed face significant constraints, while we live a deep climate change and repeated droughts. These challenges are the rationalization of natural resources, the optimization of inputs of any kind and the preservation of biodiversity.
Moreover, while the agricultural sector is generally known to be lagging behind in the adoption of new technologies, a recent study shows that the obstacles are mainly due to long experimentation cycles, connectivity problems in rural areas, weather constraints, soil nutrition and composition, etc. Improved productivity and financial incentives are now driving farmers to implement these changes, the same source said.
This is why smart farms are now the future of the agricultural world and manufacturers must therefore take the necessary steps by investing in appropriate technologies and processes to meet the future needs and expectations of farmers, adds a professor at the Disciplinary Faculty of Larache, noting that as the world becomes digitalized, suppliers of agricultural equipment are not immune to change and could even benefit from it. Agricultural machinery manufacturers can at least quadruple their profits through new technologies, the same source concluded.
Thanks to new technologies such as the “Internet of Things” or drones, farmers now have the essential tools to monitor and accompany the various stages of plant development, we learn from the same sources.
