The announcement was made on Thursday 24 February by Mehdi Bensaïd, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, during the weekly press briefing of the Government Spokesperson, at the end of the Government Council.
According to the Minister of Culture, the OLM Souissi site was chosen to host this edition of the SIEL organised in the capital for exceptional reasons. Indeed, the fair cannot be held in the Casablanca International Fair, as usual, as this space currently houses a field hospital for Covid-19 patients.
The organisers hesitated between Rabat and El Jadida to host the event, before opting for Rabat because of its designation by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ICESCO) as the cultural capital of the Islamic world for the year 2022, explained Mehdi Bensaïd.
For the record, the young minister had announced, during a speech to Parliament, that the SIEL would be held exceptionally in Rabat for its 2022 edition. The organisation of SIEL has always been held in Casablanca since its creation in 1986.
