Situation in Ukraine: What about the Moroccan student?

In reaction to this situation, the ministry of supervision published a press release on Friday 25 February, in which it called on Moroccans stranded in this country “not to leave their homes except in cases of extreme necessity, to keep their identity papers with them at all times, and to communicate regularly with the embassy and the crisis unit set up for this purpose”.

As for the citizens who have decided to leave Ukraine, the Kingdom’s embassy in Kiev, in close coordination with Moroccan embassies in neighbouring countries, indicates that it will try to facilitate the process of exit of Moroccan citizens from Ukraine in safe conditions.

In this context, and taking into account the closure of the Ukrainian airspace, the embassy also invites people wishing to leave the Ukrainian territory to go to the border crossing points to enter the following countries: Romania, Hungary and Slovakia, where reception and escort cells will be set up.

Moreover, the Moroccan embassy in Kiev invites Moroccans stranded in the country to contact the crisis unit at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the following two toll-free numbers From Ukraine: (freephone number): 0800 502683 From Morocco: 0537663300 However, the possibility of getting out of Kiev remains impossible, according to the testimonies we have gathered. In addition to the extravagant prices charged, estimated at between Dh5,000 and Dh10,000 according to the mother of a student in Kiev, several students contacted by L’Opinion said they had been prevented by the local authorities from leaving their cities. Reacting to this situation, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the representatives of Moroccans stranded in Ukraine and promised to spare no effort so that our fellow citizens can return to Morocco.

To this end, several facilitations have been put in place within the consular representations in neighbouring countries, as well as at the level of the Moroccan embassy in Kiev for an imminent repatriation. In addition, the authorities have set up a call centre to receive any request from these Moroccans stranded in a country in the midst of war.
