The Moroccan Association for Consumer Protection in Marrakech has taken up the case of some large shopping centres that have decided to require their car parks to be paid for if their customers’ cars are parked for more than 90 minutes.
In a press release, the Association accused these centres of disregarding the specifications for their creation and management and of ignoring the rights of the consumer as stipulated by the organic law n°31.08 fixing the measures for the protection of his economic rights.
The communiqué also expressed its rejection of the centres’ decision to charge for parking in their car parks, asking them to abandon this decision and requesting the intervention of the authorities in this matter.
While waiting for the said centres to give up charging for parking in their car parks, the Moroccan Association for Consumer Protection in Marrakech calls for a boycott of these centres and insists on free parking for cars and two-wheelers, in accordance with the law in all cities. It also calls for the installation of signs on avenues and in some spaces, reminding people that parking in shopping centres is free.
