The Port of Algeciras resumes boat crossing operations with Morocco

A meeting between shipping companies and port service providers will be held on Monday to decide on the start date for the resumption of maritime passenger and vehicle traffic with Morocco, local media reported.

“During this meeting, the date and modalities of the resumption of maritime traffic of passengers and vehicles with Morocco will be decided. The shipping company “Baleària” has already announced that it will resume crossings between the ports of the Kingdom of Morocco with Spain and France from 13 April”, reports “Valenciaplaza”, which quotes sources from the Port Authority of the Bay of Algeciras (APBA).

After the visit of the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, to Morocco, the president of APBA, Gerardo Landaluce, stated that “a new stage is being reached, marking the end of a deep and long diplomatic crisis. We have a lot to do with Morocco, a trading partner and friendly country’.

It should be recalled that maritime passenger traffic with the port of Tangier Med has been suspended since March 2020 initially due to the health crisis. A suspension that has been maintained following diplomatic tensions.
