Price increase: The government does not intend to lift subsidies on butane gas

Baitas said at a press briefing after the Council of Government that “at present, the government has no intention of returning to the subsidy of butane gas, despite the record prices of this material internationally.

He added that the government is aware of the importance of this subject in the daily lives of citizens and will continue to support it through the compensation fund.

Butane gas prices averaged $856 per ton at the end of February, up from about $539 per ton a year ago.

The government had responded to citizens’ concerns about rising prices for food and other essential items.

The government spokesman commented on the rise in commodity prices, saying that the situation is “imposed” by the global context, and announcing that the government has put in place socio-economic measures to “alleviate” the pressure on citizens, including an increase in wages and the expansion of social protection.
