Agadir: Taghazout Bay celebrates the argan tree

On the occasion of the International Day of the Argan Tree, celebrated on May 10, Taghazout Bay will officially inaugurate its Targant Center and its Museum of the Argan Tree, as well as launch the “Art’gan Days”, a cultural, social, scientific and artistic event around the argan tree, endemic to southern Morocco. Initiated by Morocco and adopted in March 2021 by consensus at the United Nations General Assembly, May 10 is now proclaimed International Day of the Argan Tree. “On this occasion, the Society for the development and promotion of the Station of Taghazout (SAPST) will proceed to the official opening of the Targant Center which coincides this year with the first edition of “Art’gan Days”, says a statement, noting that this event is intended to celebrate this emblematic tree of Morocco and to enhance its contribution to socio-economic development and tourism in the region.

“It is also an opportunity to promote the Targant Center and its Museum of the argan tree, a real meeting place and exchange between visitors, professionals, cooperatives and scientists of the argan tree. This center promises to be one of the main components of animation of the destination Taghazout Bay, highlighting its positioning as a tourist area combining beauty, nature, animation and eco-responsible development and solidarity. We learn that the Targant Center was created by SAPST to enhance the cultural heritage related to the argan, promote the production process of argan oil and its derivatives, and improve the economic conditions of women in the region, while strengthening the positioning of the destination in social development.

To this end, an agreement will be signed between the Foundation of the South for Development and Solidarity and the Union of Women’s Cooperatives for the production and marketing of argan oil, bearing that the delegated management of this Center whose income will be fully mobilized in local development actions. “The Center also has production workshops, a store for marketing products from the argan and a restaurant. Visitors to the destination Taghazout Bay and the region of Souss-Massa will be able to make an exceptional multi-sensory experience, ranging from the tasting of culinary creations and local products, to the discovery of cosmetics, therapeutic and wellness products, combining the standards of organic and quality to traditional know-how, “notes the release. In addition, from 5 to 10 May, the “Art’gan Days” will be an opportunity to discover a whole program of exhibitions, workshops, artistic and cultural activities, conferences and round tables led by a scientific committee, experts in organic and argan, cooperatives and institutions. The various hotels in the region are not left out, since they will offer animations and tasting corners, while the main chefs will offer culinary shows with their own creations based argan.
