Tourism. Marrakech strengthens its long-haul air connections via the Doha hub

Qatar Airways, one of the world’s leading airlines, has just announced the launch of its new direct flight linking the Qatari capital, Doha, to Marrakech, one of Morocco’s most popular destinations, says the Conseil Régional du Tourisme (CRT) Marrakech- Safi in a press release.

The new flight will be operated four times a week, offering travelers greater flexibility and optimum connectivity between the two cities, according to the same source.

To mark the occasion, the Marrakech-Safi CRT, in partnership with the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) and the National Airports Office (ONDA), organized a welcome ceremony for passengers on the inaugural flight at Marrakech-Ménara international airport on Friday, marking a new stage for Marrakech as a destination, with this direct route to high-potential markets such as the Gulf States, China, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

Qatar Airways is thus committed to offering its passengers an unrivalled travel experience on board its modern Boeing 787-8 aircraft, with a capacity of 232 seats, including 22 business class seats, noted the same source.

During the first 5 months of 2023, Marrakech recorded more than 3,689,415 tourist overnight stays, up 12%, and an occupancy rate of 68% in classified hotel units (5 points higher than 2022), while Marrakech Ménara international airport welcomed some 2,686,278 passengers during the same period, up 65% on 2022.
